PostSubject: 10 Reasons to get out of High School ASAP   February 16th 2011, 10:01 pm

I've dealt with school bullshit too much and can't stand it anymore. No one at my school or family can relate or understand these reasons. I've tried many times.

1. Teachers

Everyone has the bad, good, funny, average, and any other adjective teachers. There are perhaps 5 decent teachers at my school. Decent as in can actually teach you something and are quite nice and hilarious. The rest fall under can't teach or are just plain pricks. Of those 5, I only have about 1 decent teacher a year. 3/7 of them are ok. Then the other 2 are just horrible. Messed up grading (not curving a curve-based class, i.e. Biology). Then there are the ones that just read from a packet then test you on memorization. Clearly not learning anything from that.

2. School Work.

Yet again, everyone has heard the teachers say that high school is getting you ready for college. To those who haven't realised this, it's a lie. College is considerably different than high school. Cost, tremendous amount of free time compared to high school, class perhaps 2-3 times a week for an hour or two, specializing in classes, etc. List goes on. High school is just middle school once more with more work. That's it. You don't get to take the classes you want. I've had trouble with this trying to get into music. There's only 3 music classes at my school. Not a single prep program to get into music. Not to mention how my school will rid you of a class if it doesn't "fit".

3. School System

My school district is about as corrupt as the government (Illinois resident). Don't need much else to say.

4. Social System

It exists. If you're nice and smart, every single person that knows you or has heard of you is going to abuse you for what they want. But, when you ask for them to do something, it's too much of a hassle, too busy, not right now, why, or directs help to another person. Personal account for it.

5. Ex's.

Gotta love them. Right? In correlation to #4, this is one of my biggest issues with high school. Particularly because of my damn perfect memory of nonsensical things. My WEP key: 9717412696. Old Geek Squad repair form number: 20070315-8006977578. Number of Pokemon cards I gave: 664. Square root of 69: 8.30662386. So yeah, I remember the pointless things. Not important things like equations or school-related memorization facts for tests. Guess where that memory gets damned? Seeing and talking to my ex because she happens to be in three of my classes. How she broke up: text message, no reason. She wanted to be friends yet she didn't want to help. So she thought everything was ok. She's too much of a blonde or realise anything about a person or his/her pysche. Enough rant about her, almost every day she has to talk about her current boyfriend with me for some unknown reason. Do I have the guts to say shut up? No. Too "nice" for that. But this is where my memory comes in: I remember every god damn moment I spent with her. I wish I could forget it.

6. Classes

High school classes are just stupid. Enriched is retarded easy. AP is just another title for enriched yet I can't do anything about it. Every student must take 4 years of English (wtf), 3 years of Social Studies/History (fakljdf), 3 years of science (?.?), 4 years of gym (asl'a) and 2 years of math (WTF???). Maximum amount of 2 extra classes. This goes along with school work. If there isn't a class that fits your schedule, pick another one. This fucking policy has made me miss out on music theory, physics (which I could be taking the second year of physics now), AP chemistry, and AP calculus. I doubt this doesn't happen to anyone else.

7. The grading system

It's so retarded and subjective. If a teacher hates you, easy devilish grader. They can weight and change weights as they please. I've witnessed a teacher purposely do that to a friend. Yet again, I did the right thing and the friend says nothing about it when I told her. Anyways, I'm taking curved based classes. Based on a 7 point scale of 7 = A, 6= A, 5 = B, 4 = C, 3 = D, 2 and lower = F. Yet none of the teachers curve to that scale. Everything homework and test is exactly what classes in Europe and around the world are like and yet get bullshitted into the 90-100 = A and downwards. With no curve. Everyone fails? (which has happened) Everyone gets an F.

8. Drama.

Don't need to say much about this.

9. Due Dates

Can be so cruel. Especially when teachers assign 3 big papers (math induction proof paper, history research paper (extensive!!!), and lab for physics) and then schedule tests along with it. One of the worst flaws of high school is multiple classes per day.

10. Socio/Psychological effects

Depression. Main influence of school. Mostly from the factors above brought about from other people. Being ignored, saying <10 words multiple days, eating lunch alone, being rejected by friends, etc. all add up on a person that can't string god things together.

Main purpose of writing this rant post was because of today. Last year, I played Free Bird with a couple other friends. Last month, we decided to play Pokemon Theme Song and Devil Went Down To Georgia the Guitar Hero version. Today was the meeting for this, so I asked them when are we going to meet up. What one friend summed up was that they already selected 6 songs to try out on and really want those to get in instead.

Fucking heart-wrenching.

1) Teachers: Here in my high school, we have decent teachers, but the things that I wish they did were to enlighten us with opportunities outside of my high school. I had to come across a math team near my high school and participated in it for one year. Sorta puts a waste of time on my part considering how I should've joined it since middle school.

2) School Work: It can be stressful, but I tend to keep an open mind when it comes to homework. Everything in high school interests me so this wasn't a big issue for me.

3) School System: My school is poor as well. They had to cut a few sports because of that. It sucks because the availability of opportunities isn't there when a school lacks money to support that for their students. I agree with you there.

4) Social System: Actually, this is not true in my school. I was the only Chinese person in my graduating class. Back at middle school, I was teased based on the fact that I'm Chinese, but it lessened throughout high school. Maybe it's because I am able to take insults, and people gained respect from me. Through all the hard times, I ended up graduating first in the class, which may be another reason why many people respect me.

5) Ex's: Single all of my life. Part of me is like, man I wish I knew what it feels like to have a girlfriend, but there's another part of me that is thankful for that. Afterall, I had so much time for myself to enjoy making friends (well forming friendly ties with too many acquaintances hence my 1500+ friends on Facebook rofl), and socializing with others. It's something I'm fortunate about throughout my high school career.

6) Classes: I enjoyed all of my classes. It was like a class effort to make any class fun for everyone else, which is something I love about my high school graduating class.

7) The grading system: Yes it's very subjective and highly depends if your teacher likes or dislikes you, but in the end, those grades don't matter. I ended up with an 86 in AP Physics (my lowest grade out of my high school year) but managed to get a 5 on the AP Physics B.

Cool Drama. Been through this... horrible memories. But I learn something from it. It taught me how to be reasonable with people even if they have conflicting ideas, so in a way, I guess there are some advantages behind it.

9) Due Dates: Yes... high school taught me how to procrastinate. I'm still doing it in college and it's so bad. I really need to change this.

10) Socio/Psychological effects: High school is what you make out of it. Yes I have been through times where life is hard, but in the end, the fact that I'm going up and resuming my life makes me look forward to what awaits for me in the future. High school may be a bad time, but it's never the end of the world. You control what you want to make high school as. Fortunately, I made it look like a learning experience in terms of socializing and some academics. Here at college, it's the complete opposite.

I guess it helped that during my high school years we weren't going to a financial crisis so we kept all the sports and we didn't have to deal with bad health food.

I hated HS while I was in it but we also had a really shitty school system where I was going. But after being out I started to miss it even if it was shitty. I missed out on a lot of the fun stuff I could have done when it came to certain school functions and whatnot. But can't change the past now. I think it's moreso that people don't realize it's not that bad till they leave. Then they start to miss being there lol

I loved high school. Had a pretty stupid system in certain aspects and obviously had those teachers that I didn't like but overall I wish I had high school back.
