Recently I was contacted by a seemingly retarded woman, telling me that due to my handful of body piercings and tattoos that I was a bad role model and influence on my own daughter, using the fact that i'm a single father to try and make it seem worse.

What is your opinion on this guys?

Will post some pics later, but I only have 2 low-brets and my tongue rings aside from the token ear tunnels.
Tatts on each leg and one arm, the rest aren't visible Razz

Poll: unrelated, but another thing to ponder ^__^

Bad influence by appearance? How does that have to do with anything? It's all about the personality and your actions. It's all about how you act around them that molds who they are. Having piercings is a bad thing apparently? Your appearance may reflect on how her appearance may be (like getting a few piercings and whatnot).

This is probably my rudest post because I feel as though it's like wut/duh. It just irks me.

Or maybe if they are being "influenced", teach them to not be so fucking impressionable lmao. Also there's nothing wrong with body modification unless you're actually injuring yourself. If she wants to wear an earring, get a piercing or whatever, then let her do it.

It's just like me wearing a T-shirt that someone may find offensive. Let's say I wear a T-shirt that says "Bring our camel fucking troops home!" with a drawing of an american soldier with a camel. Am I trying to influence anyone? Am I influenced by the shirt? Fuck no! I'm wearing it because I can, and if you're taking the message on my shirt literally, then what do you WANT me to wear? If you're offended, you probably ARE afraid that the troops are fucking camels after all.

You may want to teach your daughter about ethics and common sense. Like stated above, body modifications can only really be seen as wrong if you're injuring yourself.

It's things like this that make me glad I have no role models. Piercings/tattoos a bad influence on children? Cute2

The fact this woman randomly questioned your parenting for no reason should irk you more than what she said.

Z pretty much said what else I'd say.

No person on this planet should EVER question your parenting on YOUR OWN CHILDREN. Did your child come from his/her loins? NO! So they have absolutely no right to say anything whatsoever.

I hate this about people. I'm very opinionated on this subject.

Well, as far as what has been said, yes, body modifications have no bearing on the moral standard of your parenting, nor the quality of influence you are bestowing upon them.
My daughter had her ears pierced. But as for piercings and tattoos. There are laws in place that control the suitable age for these, and I, as a mature role model will uphold her to these standards of society.

I think it was mainly a sexist attack, as a lot of women I have met believe that fathers aren't a necessity in a childs life. Hell, my dads 2nd wife hates me for the sole reason that she believes "a mother should get custody of the child no matter what...".
I don't think it is fair to judge someone for the basis of appearance.... to a point.
For example. If you are wandering the streets barefoot with a clearly unhappy and dirty child. I will probably pass judgement on the quality of your ability to raise a child responsibly.

Well, yeah. Considering that i've fought tooth and nail to support her. And the fact that she wants for nothing, shit, i've had the cash to buy my new guitar so I can record my album 3 times in the last year and I always end up spending it on her :c
She always comes first, and whether anyone else acknowledges this is irrelevant Smile

I can see where you are coming from Sara, but I have to disagree with you there.
I have a friend where I was living that has taught their kid to swear and thinks it is hilarious, another person I know has a son that they beat on for the slightest word out of line or anything they see fit.

These people should be told a thing or two about parenting, not a person like myself who has a visible piercing or two.

I could ramble on about this for a while, but i'm fairly intrigued on everyones perspective of this issue.

Next time ask her how she raises her own children.

I don't have any children of my own but I've found that people who are bitter like that have usually had something happen to them within the things they complain about.
Maybe her daughter turned out to be a part of the LGBT community with six piercings, thirty tattoos and four kids.

But then again maybe I'm reading into things a little one sided because of what I've been through as a child. Personally single fathers aren't all bad. EITHER parent can be deadbeat and it's not always the father. Courts shouldn't hang on the "maternal" relationship between mother and child as the end all to custody battles. Didn't do a thing to make me a "well adjusted and bright individual" (according to my case worker in my parents divorce) to live with my single mother for my childhood and she doesn't have a single tattoo or piercing other than one on each ear. In fact it ensured my seriously warped mentality and ego the size of Russia. Meh I'll leave that alone now. Tis pretty much off topic.

Glad to hear that taking care of your daughter comes first though. Smile
Sign of a very mature parent.~ (Even though there are some who aren't sadly).
Enough rambling from me I suppose. Been eating too much chocolate. Hyper Vanyr is an insane Vanyr.
