Is this statement true or false: "Happiness comes in small insignificant doses."
State your reasoning.

For someone who can reflect on the positive sides of the past, the small doses do. The large doses can have a brutal effect. Once the large dose of happiness is gone, what's left? The feeling of wanting that happiness back. I have that right now. The smaller stuff can make a huge difference. It's the smaller stuff that is easier to obtain and always have the feeling that you can always be happy by that. The amount of doses also plays a factor in it. If you have too many small doses, the need for bigger doses becomes apart of the mind to achieve more happiness. Too many big doses can result in the same situation for despair to feel happy. Those are somewhat extreme examples, but get a point across. To me, that statement is neither true nor false. The way to be happy is to have equal balance between being extremely happy at one point to being satisfied/happy for something little more often to equal it.

Absolute truth, at least--it holds true to my life.

I've been able to remember all of the horrible moments of my life in near perfect chronological order, but all of the happy points of my life are forgotten as soon as another bad moment happens.

Of course, this doesn't hold true completely, there are some moments that are too precious to be forgotten. The birth of a new baby in the family is a moment of happiness that will never be forgotten, even if their child happens to be nothing but trouble--they were brought into the world.

I have no reason to agree or disagree to be honost, but you can't ever get a definate answer regardless of what people say. If comes up 50/50 or 60/40 etc, it doesn't always mean it is true, because what is true for one person, may not be for another.

happiness is whatever you want it to be. if something bad happens everyone tells you to think about the good things that happened, as in death of a loved one. sure its sad at the moment, or year(s), but it does get better eventually. time in itself is happiness, it always brings something thats better in the end

I've just noticed this, we have some amazing words of wisdom, knowledge, common sense, and thoughts in Dragons_Fury. We should write a book or publish our thoughts XD These are some deep thoughts. It also shows how diverse we are. Re-reading them is quite something.

In this day and age, particularly considering our demographic of internet dwellers, depression is rampant. It seems to me like this statement comes from an amalgam of observations using a subjective perspective of happiness. Happiness is a biochemical high; it comes and goes, but our bodies invariably return to homeostasis.

No, I disagree. Happiness comes in many forms.

I'd rather have happiness in small insignificant doses since I see it more as the kind of happiness you feel when your with people you care about, or doing something you enjoy as opposed to the "happiness" you feel because you got exactly what you asked for for your birthday.

Though the small insignificant doses of happiness are usually pushed aside these days with everyone on edge. Too many people focus only on extreme positives or negatives since they do tend to have a much larger impact on our lives and let the small things go unnoticed. Myself included at times.
Though it's also forgotten that the small things usually tend to add up over time to become something more.

By the way. Take a look. Smile

I've always noticed that I have, and so do many people I know, a fairly good amount of small doses of happiness. And I have a few extreme moments of happiness. But I'm happier in the long run with the smaller doses, because there are MORE of them. I'm kind of restating what's already been said, but.

Anyway, happiness DOES come in many forms, but I personally like more, smaller doses.
