PostSubject: The Asian Tournament   August 2nd 2010, 4:29 pm

Nihao FFRiends!
(In case you haven't noticed, that means 'hello' in Chinese)

Your two favorite Asians (Austin and I) have collaborated and decided to host a tournament, one that has a little twist to it. When Austin and I went to Chinese camp, our masters proposed many challenges that requires reaction timing, endurance, speed, and patience. Some challenges we were faced with includes catching flies with two fingers, standing on eggs without breaking it, and learn some martial arts. We would like to bring our unique experiences and incorporate that into this tournament. This is no tournament where you solely compete against your opponents in terms of PA. This is a TEST (one you don't study for) that challenges you on specific skills that play a vital role in the success of the FFR Master (approved by Asians). Shall we get started?

Before you all scramble off and begin playing your songs, there are a few rules that everyone must obey. Back then, when Austin and I disobey the rules, we used to be punished in some gruesome manner. I will NOT go into the details. If you disobey the rules, there will be serious consequences. Just obey the rules and you should be fine:

Rules:
1) Patience is essential in any Asian character. Lack of patience results in cheating, which will NOT be tolerated in this test. After all, cheating on any test is immoral so make sure there is nothing in your computer to assist you. We want to challenge your skills, not your pathetic attempts to complete this test.
2) Although you may think that Asian camp sucks... we will allow everyone to ONLY use the mirror mod. No left and right mods.
3) You may only use the offline engine by seeking permission (approved by Asians).
4) This is only a small test, so please don't stress over it. Have fun and enjoy this test =)

Directions:
You will be presented with a song which will focus on one skill. You will be given three days for each test to beat the required percentage to beat the test. Dates are as follows:

Registration for the test will be throughout this week starting today till this Saturday at 11:59:59.99999.... EST.
After signups, you will be presented with a warmup song to prepare yourself for the test. This will occur during the 7th of August to the 9th at 11:59:59 EST.
We will then test you on your ability to read jumps. This will occur during the 10th to the 12th of August at the same times above.
Then endurance, a vital part of a living Asian, will be stressed throughout this next test by presenting a long song. This will occur between the 13th to the 15th of August at the same times.
Reaction, another important role, will be tested with the stepfiles that contains bursts. We will give you this test between the 16th to 18th on the same times.
Physical endurance will be encouraged with the usage of jacks. This will occur between the 19th to the 21nd of August at the same times.
Lastly, your final exam, that contains a variety of skills, will be presented at the 22rd to the 24th of August during the same times.

Herro everyone!

So, after reading all of the rules above, lets move onto scoring! This isnt an average PA tournament, this is an Asian test so there must be something different. There will be 6 divisions. Every player from each division will have 25 life points. These life points are sacred to Asians so keep them with you. For each round, there will be a minumum score that you must get for your song. For example, if a song's AAA score was 50000, 80% of that score would be 40000 so each player that has that song would have to get a score of 40000 or higher to pass that part of the test. If a player does not get a score over 40000, they lose 1 life point for every percent that they need. If the player gets a score of 35000 (70%), they would lose 10 life points. We are going to be nice in this test and say that every person can only lose a maximum of 7 life points per song. Any player that gets above the required score gets 1 bonus point for each percentage they pass by. If a player loses all of their life points, they failed the test.

Bonus points are points that are earned and used to decide tiebreakers. Bonus points are different from life points. If 2 players get the same score on a song, for instance, the person who has more bonus points would be ranked higher. A player gets 1 bonus point for each percentage they pass by. Meaning if the required percentage was 80% and a player gets a score of 90%, that player would have 10 bonus points.

For anyone who wants to take this grueling test, sign-up now!

In. Spread. (Which makes me D2 or so. I can send scores if you want.)

Q's:
When you say "bonus points", do you mean "bonus life points" or "bonus score points"?
Is the winner determined by who has the most points at the end?
Will you be splitting percentages, or will you round down to the nearest percent? (i.e., if a song is worth at most 50,000 and I get 49950, (99.9%), do I get 19.9 points or 19 points?)
What is the penalty for not submitting?

Yes Corey, you may use the offline. I'll ask Austin about it, but it's been approved by Wilson so far Smile I'm sure Austin won't mind as well

I'm in either way though

I would stick with the Custom and the public engine (LD's engine), but likewise, I'll ask austin and get a definite answer.

Bonus points are "bonus score points." There is no way you can gain life points (you can only lose them).
You will be eliminated from the tournament if you are down to 0 life points, but chances are, nobody will be eliminated. You will lose the max of 7 life points if you happen to score at least 7% lower than the required score.
So one might think, "Oh, then I really don't have to try and get my best score... all I need to get is that required percentage."
This is why bonus score points are present. It encourages everyone to try their best, and in case someone ties with another, the one with more bonus points will get the higher rank. Therefore, there will be NO TIEBREAKERS at the end.
As for rounding, your percentage will only be rounded against you only if you can't beat the required score for this round. Let's say the required score is 50000, and you miss it by 5 points. It wouldn't make sense to say that you pass the round if you rounded that percentage up. In this case, you are more likely to lose a point under life points.
However, if you beat the required score, the extra percentage that you score will be added to your bonus points. They will NOT be rounded due to the possiblilty of ties.
You may submit scores late, but the cost is one life point per day late. So if one doesn't submit a score, think of it as being late. Note that if you miss two rounds, you will start to lose 2 points per day late instead of 1, etc. This will weed out all inactive participants, but hopefully this won't be an issue.

I hope I cleared many things up for you Smile If not, let me know!

And I will start grouping people into divisions later this week. I may have to ask a few of you to submit a score on a preliminary song or whatever. You will be notified immediately though Smile

Plan, i dont mind you using the offline.
Middie, we talked it over and it would be better to stick with the public engine and not Velocity's engine.
Zyroplex, basically, we round the score if it is below the requirement, we dont round if it is over the requirement.

Monica and Gin... I have a small request for each of you.

We are currently doing placements, and we aren't sure which division would suit you best.

Monica, may you please play Ramua under public and post it before signups end?

Gin, may you do the same, but play Frictional Nevada for us? Same deadline.

Thank you Smile I really appreciate this Smile
